Ruta de las Joyas
Leaving Laguna Colorada, still heading north, we drove on la Ruta de las Joyas Altoandinas. This is a famous road in Bolivia which connects five salt lakes at an average altitude of 4,100m: Ramaditas, Honda, Charcota, Hedionda and finally laguna de Cañapa. These lakes vary in size, shape, color … and smell. One common point: the abundance of James flamingos.

After a long tiring day on the dirt roads, we finally reached San Pedro de Quemes. We stayed at Tayka de Piedra, a community hotel managed by local families, very nicely decorated. Time to enjoy a relaxing evening before starting the exploration of Salar de Uyuni on the next day.
