Alpe di Siusi
In June 2018, I attended a photo workshop organized by Hans Kruze in the beautiful Dolomites mountains in Italy. We photographed Alpe di Siusi during the very first days of our stay and started with an early morning walk through the prairie.
Alpe di Siusi is a plateau with an altitude between 1700m and 2350m and the largest high-altitude alpine meadow in Europe. It’s an area of agriculture so you’ll find lots and lots of farms here with cows, horses, goats and lots of hay. This vast pasture is surrounded by the Dolomite mountains making it very unique — and incredibly beautiful. Alpe di Siusi is both pastoral and mountainous. The juxtaposition of those rolling fertile hills surrounded by jagged peaks is simply breath taking.
This first series of photos was shot at sunrise and early morning while progressing through the wet grass.
The second series was captured a few days later from the top cable car station in Ortisei. The view towards the Sasso Lungo mountains is really gorgeous, overlooking Alpe di Siusi. With heavy clouds pushed by steady winds, it was the perfect combination for long exposures.
A final series at sunset.
